wow...it has been a loooong time since i wrote about my boy leo! it has been a long road with this wonderful horse. since my last post we have had another big colick and severe weight issues. i did not think leo was gonna make it through last winter. we were trying everything....name a supplament, addative, weight builder, type of feed, type of hay, or any and all combinations of them and we tried it. he was soooo thin. it broke my heart. finally i found a feed that worked....with no oils, additives or anything, he started putting on weight and keeping it on! i was amazed! he was brighter again and looks wonderful. after him gaining about 200lbs....it was time to put him back in the workout rotation....his only workout for the last almost 2 yrs was slow country walks with me on a leadline once and awhile. lol

we started off slow....simple lunge line workouts just to re-inforce voice commands. he did wonderful! after a few weeks of that i figured it was time....i tacked up this amazing boy and up i went.(keep in mind he has been sitting, doing nothing, for almost two years!) he was amazing! he is no longer a slow-walk-only guy!LOL the boys got some ZIP!!! and he has some high steps when he is feeling it! its funny...."LOOK MA....I CAN BE A SHOW HORSE!!!!!) i wont put a total beginner on him....he needs a bit more work....but he is still the kindest guy in the world!!!! and he has really learned to LOOOOOVE treats! he just about mugs you for carrots now!(thanks hubby!)

leo is doing great right now....and i am looking foward to riding him more. he is an amazing horse and i am still thankful everyday i took him home!

pics to come soon...............

Glad Leo is doing so well. Out of curiosity, what feed ended up working so well for him?

the feed was Sentinal performance LS by blue seal. it has 12% fat in it. with nothing else added he started gaining weight immediately. i couldn't believe it.

now i have enough weight builder products to help a small third world country! lol

after feeding today i am going to tack him up and ride. hopefully i can get some pics. he still needs a bit of weight, and muscle, but he is feeling soooo much better. he has the most amazing sweet personality. he tries so hard.....i just love this grand old man!
