Jasper is an older horse that we got on the 28th. I do not have photos, not sure if anyone took any but wanted everyone to know about him and help us find him a great home. We removed Jasper from the herd right away because it was obvious that he was low man on the totem pole and getting picked on badly. He was also very thin, tired and sore all over. This is a horse that has truly been "used" Jasper was extremely quiet on his first test ride. He is a very pretty red chestnut with a star on his pretty head and four white feet. We may have papers but Pat is trying to confirm that the ones we got were in fact his. Jasper is an absolute doll in every respect. His ground manners are perfect. Under saddle he is dead quiet. He does not want to go very fast, is happy just walking slowly. He will trot but with urging and then, slowly. He has gained weight, rested and had his feet done and is less stiff and sore now. I do not think this horse wants to work much and he has earned an easy life. I just hope we can find one for him. He is 15.1 and a petite build, very refined. The girls had a great time giving him a spa day last week and reported that he was the best behaved horse ever for his bath and clipping. Jasper is a sweet little love bug. He would love to be a treasured pet and will be ok with occasional light slow rides. He is beginner safe.

He sounds like a candidate for me, if only I could win the lottery.

I am revising my original assesment of this horse. With rest and food and proper shoes he is no longer sore and is more than willing to trot briskly and will also canter. He is still a wonderful gentleman in all respects but I think he can be much more useful than I originally thought. He could go into a lesson program or be a personal pleasure horse. He would make a great pet of course but does not need a pet only home.

I LOVE JASPER! One day I took him out just to groom him and I washed his tail and I can't tell you how much of a gentleman this horse is! I was telling my mom, I don't think I've even seen a show horse act so relaxed on the ground. Normally when you wash a horse's tail, they like to duck it under because they don't like the cold water -- Jasper didn't even do that! He just stood perfectly still! I'm not even sure I've ridden this horse yet, but he's one of my all-time favorites rescues just because he was so perfect to work around. He's sooo cute! He doesn't ask for anything, he doesn't squirm, he doesn't paw. It's incredible. Such a sweetie, I told my mom today that I want her to adopt him for me just so I can play with him on the ties and make him look pretty. Today, Doug rode him and I gave him lots of treats and he politely took them from my hand and was so happy to have received them. I love love love love this guy! Such a sweetheart.

That makes my heart so happy to hear he feels better, but so sad to know someone did this to him. Thank you, SBR.
Every day when I experience for myself while caring for June Cleaver and Mickey5, how they can still appreciate people and want to please (and Mickey goes way beyond "appreciate", he LOVES people) after the very hard work they were put through.. it renews my faith in the world.
Whoever adopts this boy will have a treasure indeed.

The main reason that I have never made the trip to NWS is because I would fall in love with each and everyone of these treasures. I am moved to tears at reading AnneB's update on Jasper. See what good feed, rest and retraining has done for this wonderful ASB. Thanks SBR. AnneJ
